The gingerbread man

It is so much fun when learning is a part of crafting.
What are they learning while having fun?

- new vocabulary
First of all I introduced new vocabulary using play dough and gingerbread forms.

- story telling and sequencing
Next I told them a fairy tale about gingerbread man. After we watched it together (you will find the short fairy tale here Gingerbread man) it was their turn of retelling it to me.

- measurement and volume
We agreed on baking one gingerbread together.
Baking gingerbreads is great for improving children's soft skills and measurement awareness.
My favourite recipe:
150g honey
200g sugar
2 eggs
500g plain flour
1 baking powder
5g baking soda
80g butter
5g gingerbread spice mixture

I add on more recipe for great Xmas cookies

60g spelt flour

40g whole wheat flour

55g butter 82%

55g date paste

You mix all the ingredients together until consistency of a playdough. Bake for 180 degrees 6-8 minutes9when they are about 0,5cm thick)

- safety
We went together through basic safety instructions when it came to oven and baking trays. And we practiced baking with not real- laminated gingerbreads (great for smaller kids when you don't want them to use the oven at all).

- colors and counting
After the gingerbreads are ready (it really take 2-3 minutes in the oven at 170 degrees), it was time to start decorating them. First we needed to count how many we decorate, then we chose colors and fun could start.
