What are they?
Sensory bottles are great for their calming motion. Focusing on the objects in the calm down bottle will help a child calm down and focus their attention. They are very easy to make and you can change materials easily. If you do so children will learn also how heavy each bottle is (later on you can start sorting from the lightest to the heaviest). First sensory bottles I made we used for seasons distinguishing (spring, summer, autumn, winter). To younger children they gave the opportunity to observe things that were not yet safe for them to touch. While shaking the sensory bottle with older children we learnt new vocabulary that was typical for each season (e.g. winter- snowflakes, X-mas tree, etc.). Children loved them.
They are great also for the no mess sensory play they provide.

- liquid soap/shampoo/mineral oil/baby oil/liquid transparent glue (it slows down the motion a little bit)
- food coloring (if you prefer your water any different color)
How to do it?
Fill the bottle 3/4 of the way full with warm water and just combine all your ingredients together. Add clear soap, oil or glue. (The more viscous your solution, the longer the glitter will suspend.)Add glitter. (Lots of glitter.) Squeeze a few drops of food coloring into the water. Different ratios of water and soap, oil or glue will create different bottles. All were perfect to me. So let’s find the one perfect for you.
Last step
Don’t forget to glue the lid, so that your bottle could last for years and it would be safe also for toddlers. I used glue gun and worked just perfectly.
